December 21, 2001
T4P patch!
If it hasn't been done already, a small patch (about 800k) will be automatically downloaded next time you play T4P. This patch contains two small gifts for the holidays:

• Santa Claus! During the holidays, players can expect to meet a jolly and generous bearded fellow dressed in red roaming around the land. So… have you been naughty or nice?
• Screenshots! Using the F12 key now takes a screenshot and saves it automatically on your disk in the T4P software folder. This feature is still in its experimental stage and may cause client crashes on some computers when used. Please report this to us if it should happen to you. Also, all macros using the F12 key will no longer be usable. We will consider using a different key in a future patch.

Servers and website down
All T4P server as well as the T4P website will be down today between 2 PM and 3:30 PM EST (GMT-5) for maintenance. The website will also be updated to an ASP.net architecture (.aspx). This will make developing new web features much easier in the future.

Event :: Ascent :: Save the pigs!
On Thursday, December 20th at 9 pm EST (GMT-5), players are invited to participate in a PvP event where two teams will have to protect their flock of pigs from the other team. The team who first manage to kill all the pigs from the other team wins!

Equinox :: A Samaritan rewarded for the first time!
Today, a formal ceremony was held to celebrate the first reward given to a Samaritan.

In the Lighthaven Temple, before Moorock the priestess of Artherk, DragonMage was rewarded for his work as a Samaritan. By his side stood Jewels who was thanking him for his help and impeccable honesty in her time of trouble and vulnerability. As promised, DragonMage received half of the total experience needed to get to the next level as well as 10 000 gold. Praise Artherk!

Last Friday's House of Mirrors has been a success, although some players got lost in the maze once the event was over. There have also been reports of a thief picking the pockets of unsuspecting players, but the miscreant was eventually caught by the efficient teamwork of Kyla and Saedorn who recuperated most of the stolen items - and then some!

The first recorded guild war of Equinox has been declared!
Lady Xarell, leader of guild Paladins of the Order of the Rose Tree (PORT), has recently been killed by Grashnuhk, leader of The Followers of Kaelberon (FKA). She died defending her companion, the poet Thaddius, whom Grashnuhk was hired to kill. In retaliation to this, the members of PORT have decided to wage full-scale war on FKA.

On Friday, at 9:00PM EST (GMT-5, 6:00PM PST), for approximately 1 hour, the great mage Luirn Clar will use all his power to open up Gateways in each town to take any willing adventurers to a house of mirrors of sorts.

From this point, adventurers must use the power of memory and luck to advance themselves within the mirror rooms to find the end. Any adventurer cunning enough to solve the mystery will be rewarded well with gold and experience but no adventurer will leave empty handed.

It starts today at 3 PM (GMT-5) and will last until it is over.

IMPORTANT :: Minimum PVP level lowered to 10
The first level where a player can engage in Player versus Player combat (PvP) has been lowered from level 25 to level 10 on Ascent and Equinox.

If you have a character that is between level 10 and 25, it has its PvP enabled as of today. This means you are now vulnerable to attacks and theft from other players.

If you do not want to engage in Player versus Player combat (PvP), you must go to the Character Options page, choose your character and switch the PvP toggle at off. You can always switch it back on and off again later if you need.

Keeping your PvP toggle switched at on will enable you to duel for fun with your friends from enemy Brotherhoods or with members of other guilds. It will also enable you to participate fully to special events such as tournaments or when a GM impersonates a monster that you have to kill.

Please keep in mind that PvP is for fun and must not be abused. You must exercise restraint when killing or stealing other players. Do not steal all of a player's equipment and do not kill a player more than once a day, unless it has been agreed that it is ok with him before.

If you ever feel that you are a victim of PvP abuse from another player, please report him to abuse@4thprophecy.com.

Equinox :: The 1,000,000 gold tournament!
Lord Soth has organized a duel tournament open to all with a 500k in gold for the winner, 250k for the first and second runners up and 50k for the very worst score! A nice feature is the "mercy kill" rule where players can yield and accept defeat when they feel they are close to dying, making this tournament a great way to experiment in PvP without risking any penalties.

Servers up!
The maintenance has been easier and faster than expected, so now both servers are up hours before the expected time! Thank you all for your patience and understanding!

Server maintenance
Today, all servers will be down between 11 AM and 3 PM (GMT-5) for maintenance. This will also have an impact on some page of the website. During that time, we will complete the switch to a new database server with better data transfers. This should improve considerably the performance and stability of our servers.

Server crashes
We sincerely apologize to all T4P players for the server crashes we've been experiencing lately.

Now, although the overall performance of the current servers has been improved, this morning's server crash proves that we still have work to do. Rest assured that the stability of our T4P servers is still our highest priority and that we'll keep looking for ways to improve them.

Remember that when the server shuts down without at least a 5 minutes warning, it means that it is an automatic shutdown due to server problems. The T4P team is very aware of how dangerous shutting down without warning is and would never do it intentionally.

Lost e-mails
A great tragedy has struck the T4P team last week: Kenril, our Lead Game Master, has lost all data on his hard drive, including all e-mails messages!

If you have written to Kenril the last few weeks and haven't received an answer yet, please send your messages again. This is particularly important for all Moderator, Storyteller or Guild submissions.

Ascent and Equinox :: Halloween event
On October 31 evening (Eastern Standard Time, GMT-5), the dead come back to life and roam the streets of the cities. Brave adventurers from all islands are needed to protect their cities from the upcoming onslaught of undead creatures. By royal edict, all citizens of Goldmoon are warned to stay indoors and wait out this night of terrors.

Obsidian and Ragnarok server now officially closed
We will transfer today all characters of the players who have already contacted us to tell us which server they want to join between Ascent and Equinox. Remaining players have until Friday, November 9, to inform us about what to do with their characters. All remaining transfers will be done at that time.

What a party!
A simple beach party is disrupted by a small raid - which in turn turned into unspeakable carnage as the fight spilled in Lighthaven and Windhowl.

Obsidian and Ragnarok to be closed down
Due to a chronic lack of players, the Obsidian and Ragnarok servers will be permanently closed down on October 30 at noon (Eastern Standard Time, GMT -5). The settings used in those servers have proven not popular enough to justify the costs involved in maintaining them. This has been a hard decision for us, particularly in view of the wonderful efforts of the community to generate interest.

For this exceptional occasion, players from Obsidian and Ragnarok will be able to transfer their character to either Ascent or Equinox. If you are interested, you must write to support@4thprophecy.com by Friday November 9 and give your account name, the name of your character(s) and on which server you want them transferred.

Ascent :: Blackwolf planning to raid the Beach Party
Our informants from the underground have warned us that Blackwolf's Brotherhood are planning a raid to ruin the Beach party organized by their nemesis, The Merchant Association of Goldmoon. So don't forget to bring your sword to the party!

Market Island bug fixed!
Everyone rejoices! Our programmers have worked around the clock to fix the nasty market Island bug some of you may already have experienced. Indeed, some players sometimes found themselves prisoner of Market Island after a server reboot. This is a thing of the past for the Island will now automatically return if a server ever resets itself. Obsidian was the first server to get the fix but the rest will follow at their next reboot. Take that Gilligan!

Willowisp ring bug fixed!
A very ugly bug prevented the Willowisp ring from being displayed properly in the inventory screen. Instead players would see a black square where the ring was. It is now fixed and the ring will now shine in all its splendour.

Equinox :: Melina to appear for the ritual to locate Lady Fali
Melina, the great druid and leader of the Order Of The Rose Tree, made it known that she will indeed take part in the upcoming ritual she designed to locate Lady Fali. Lady Xarelle will bring all the required ingredients that she and other brave souls gathered across the kingdom through their sweat and blood.

As many players already know, T4P servers have been down from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm yesterday. To thank players for their cooperation during this downtime, one day of free subscription will be added to all valid paying accounts.

Our network reconfiguration is now complete. We expect this will reduce the servers problems considerably and there are other steps we will undertake that should ensure an even more stable connection. Thank you all for your patience and support!

Server shutdown
At 16h PM (EST) today, all servers will be shut down until 16:30h. These shutdowns are part of an important step towards fixing the problems we all have been experiencing lately. Of course, a five minute warning will be issued before shutdown.

Interruption of services Friday, September 21
The four T4P servers; Ascent, Equinox, Obsidian and Ragnarok will shut down for a 2 hours period between 3PM and Midnight Friday September 21. Events outside of Vircom's control may result in an unstable connection following the power up of the servers but everything should be in working order for the weekend.

New Feature :: The Graveyard is now officially open!
As the name implies, the Graveyard is where you'll see al the people who died from combat with another player (PvP). And with the level gap, you can even get an idea of the fairness of the fight! Dying will never be the same in T4P.

Brotherhoods lost upon remort
As the first T4P seraphs appear, we are discovering unforeseen problems emerging, such as the reactivation on the online help (in purple text) or the loss of the player's brotherhood affiliation upon rebirth.
Until these problems are fixed, we ask new seraph players to type "Help off" to cancel the online help and join once again their brotherhood from the Characters Options page (previously called Your Characters).

Ragnarok :: The first T4P seraph!
Congratulation to Jupiter who, on September 5th, has become the very first T4P seraph! This is a staggering achievement as this server is the youngest of all and has the most radical death setting.

Equinox :: The first seraphs on Equinox are evil twins!
Lord Soth and Serra, two followers of evil, have both experienced rebirth on September 7th and are now officially the first players to become Seraphs in the Equinox server. Congratulations! As Lady Xarell pointed out in her post, the two rebirths have happened within three minutes of each others, so we could call them twins! Congratulations Lord Soth and Serra!

Ascent :: Beach party in Lighthaven
A surprise beach party was held on the beach south of Lighthaven last Friday, September 7, to the pleasure of all who attended. There has been much dancing, goblin bar-b-q, drinking of potions as well as spectacular magic fireworks supplied by all spell-casting adventurers present.
The party had been spontaneously organized by Albertus Strong and Trom. The later had also decided to hold a hide-and-seek event where the first player to find him would win a 25 000 gold prize! Chrono, the lucky winner, had discovered Trom hiding behind a tree near the grass plain north of the city. Congratulations Chrono!

Equinox :: Surprise attack a success!
Last Tuesday, September 4th, Lady Xarell led a surprise attack to the goblin camp in retaliation for the attacks of the last few weeks. They met fierce opposition as they came face to face with Gorben the mad, a high ranking spell casting yellow goblin.

T4P launcher window updated
To better serve the T4P community, we have made many important adjustments to the T4P launcher window. It will now open at full screen size and be resizable. It will also give you access to the complete range of features the T4P website has to offer, such as news, the forum and the list of players in-game.
Your software will automatically update itself next time you play. Total size of the patch : 200 k, about one minute download time at 28.8 k.

Hegemony to shut down permanently on August 31
It is with regret that we have come to the difficult decision to close down the Hegemony server. It has proved to be the least popular of our servers and we feel that the whole T4P community would be better served if we were to concentrate our support to the other servers. All Hegemony players have until Friday august 31, 2001 at 12h00pm GMT to inform us of which server they want to be transferred to or if they wish to terminate their Hegemony character (one server per account.) Otherwise, all remaining characters will be transferred to Ascent, which is the most similar server to hegemony in gameplay style as well as the most popular. This will ensure that the current Hegemony players will now have access to a bigger community of players without having to start over from scratch.

First T4P patch
As you start the game, you may experience a slight delay as T4P will update itself by downloading a few files that have been modified. This patch weighs about 1meg and should take less than 10 minutes to download with a 28.8 modem and a few seconds with a high speed Internet connection.
The changes made are :

• A new series of in-game help screens with much more information than before, including descriptions of the first four quests
• In-game contextual hints that will guide beginners through the first level of gameplay.

Software Conflict
There is a compatibility problem between The 4th Prophecy and The 4th Coming v. 1.21. If you have a copy of T4C on your disk and you install T4P, you may not be able to start T4C afterwards. This problem has been corrected in the version 1.22 patch for The 4th Coming that has been made available on August 2nd. (See the Newswire section of the official T4C website for more details.)
Please make sure your copy of The 4th Coming has been updated to version 1.22 before installing The 4th Prophecy.

Subscription page now up
You can now purchase a T4P subscription from the Subscription page. As of now, all T4P accounts with a character that has reached Level 10 are locked until a subscription has been obtained.

Server news now available
Each T4P server now has its own news page to cover local news and events specific to that server. The main T4P News page still covers general news of interest to all 4th Prophecy players.

The first organized events are a success!
A few players who were lucky enough to get advanced copies of the T4P installation software got to experience the first organized events this week. They were nice enough to write us an account in three parts titled Goblin Wars that you can read on the news page for the Equinox server.

Free T4P CDs shipped!
We now have the free T4P installation CD in stock! CDs have been shipped to all eligible players who ordered one before July 26th. We are still taking orders from players living in North America and the downloadable installation software will soon be available to all.

Players are free to copy the T4P Installation software to friends
Reminder: If you ordered a CD, or downloaded it from Internet, remember that the T4P installation software can be freely copied to anyone. So come and play with your friends!

Personalized Hints & Tips will keep players out of the jam
From now on, players will receive handy hints and tips by e-mail to help them develop their characters and participate in quests. Every day, players may receive new hints, depending if they need it or not. This ensure that players won't get stuck in quests or waste time trying to find what to do next!

Brotherhoods introduced
To fully enjoy personalized Hints and Tips, players must first join a brotherhood. Brotherhoods are official guilds controlled by Vircom staff organized around the chosen professions of their members. Once users have created a character in the game, they are invited to come back to the website and choose a brotherhood for each of their characters. Since there is no character class in T4P, choosing a brotherhood is a way of saying "This is what my character is or wants to become", as well as joining a dynamic player community.

The 4th Prophecy Available Soon to North American Market. Free CDs and Shareware Distribution Will Ensure Easy Access to The Game
After the resounding success of The Fourth Coming overseas, Vircom will offer to the North American market a modified version called The 4th Prophecy. The client software will be made available in July 2001 as a free download and as a free CD shipped right to your door! Also, anyone will be allowed to make copies of the installation software and give it to friends.
